Where can Polish people find help in London?

A polish family of 3 have just moved in next door to us. Yesterday the lady came over in tears because the roof was leaking and water was dripping all over the flat. Their gas was not working either, so they could not get hot water, or the heaters or cooker going. Today she came over again and my boyfriend was given their lease - which is 300quid more per month than we pay - for the same flat! They have absolutely no money and speak very limited english. Obviously the letting agency didn't pick up on a bank holiday, but we have said we will phone tomorrow for them. They've got a young child and the house is really humid and smelling from the obvious water damage - not healty! I gave them some food and some towels and sheets- they'd spent all their money on the rent! She says she's going to work tomorrow, but I am not sure if she's already got a job or not.

I really want to help..but don't speak polish and don't know much about legal rights. Any ideas?

Contact the Citizens Advise and they will give you all the help you so obviously need. Good luck.
Reply:With so many polish in the country now, there will probably be a translator for them at the citizens advice or council offices, so they should be able to speak to someone direct themselves.

As for the prices, if it's a private agency, I'm pretty sure they can charge whatever they please - even if someone else's rent is totally different. If their situation is desperate enough, the council will probably be able to house them, which of course will be a more reasonable cost in rent.
Reply:i think your question should be, where do British people get help in London.

so another do gooder in town.
Reply:Tell them to go back to Poland. End of.
Reply:They could go back to Poland.
Reply:tell them 2 go back 2 poland
Reply:Put your Polish neighbours in touch with your local CAB (Citizen's Advice Bureau) - there, they can get free legal advice concerning who is responsible for the problems they face at the property they are renting.
