Can you polish soft metal?
yes you can . the best way , although time consuming, is to do it by hand. I personally like mothers aluminum polish , avaible a most auto part stores, or wallmart..

you can use the polishing disk or wheel on your drill.. also use a toothbrush to get into any small spaces
Reply:i wound not use a drill spins to fast i would use mothers polish that way you dont gouge the rims bin there had to get a new rim
Reply:This takes a lot of time and work, there are places that recondition them.
Reply:no it will leave a film on it
Reply:I agree with the Mother's Aluminum polish. However, I wouldn't use that red cloth ball or whatever it is they use out of fear of it getting thin in one spot and me hitting the rim with a drill spinning at hundreds of RPMs.

Use a terry cloth towel (after washing the rims THROUGHLY) to apply to first coat, and remove it after it's dried some. Then, use a diaper (it's a rag that you can get in the car-care section...soft material, white, very little lint) and buff the rim with that. This method of buffing works well with other surfaces as well, even with glass and a glass cleaner.
Reply:Mothers mag and aluminum polish is the best.
