Are Polish people really distinct from other cultures in the U.S?

I get impression that while Italians, Germans, Irish mix in, Polish generally don't really mix. Might be that reason why they are not too much liked? I kinda experienced it no one time. Once when I went to someones party and my friend wanted me to present myself as Irish, or Italian rather than Polish. Altough I kinda don't understand why.

Maybe because your friend was dumb? What the hell, who has a problem with Poland? WWII was such a long time ago, and you guys were on OUR side. Whatever. No one has a problem with the Polish these days unless you're old or naive.
Reply:Most people of Polish people I know throughout the northeast fit in fine. Maybe it's a Chicago thing.
Reply:There is no difference, but depending on where you live it might make a difference? Stereotypes.
Reply:I've heard that Chicago is one of the most "racially" segregated areas in the country. I'm Polish and I don't look different. I think the groups that tend to not exactly fit in are Jewish, Irish, and Italian. I think us Poles look pretty generic white.
Reply:what do you mean they dont mix, LOL! I'm german, italian, irish, and polish.
Reply:I'm Polish, and I come from a heavily Polish area...so I don't really even understand. Where I'm from, everyone loves you if you have a "-ski" last name!
