How do you polish silver?

I have a celtic cross that says "sterling bliss" on the back. Is this the same as sterling silver? If not is there a different way to polish it? I have used regular silver polish and it did not clear up that well. I have also tried toothpaste which I heard works. Any other suggestions or brand of polish to use?

polishing silver is unnecessary

dip in "CLR" then rinse off
Reply:Brasso + soft cloth.
Reply:i hear a little dot of toothpaste works well.
Reply:You can get a silver wiping cloth from any jewellers. It gets black silver shining white again. It looks like a window shammy! but it works a treat. Costs around £2.00.
Reply:Sterling bliss is only a silvertone not real silver. You may take off what finish you have by continuing to use abrasive cleaners.

You can take the cross to a jeweler to see what they recommend, and have them quote you a price to recreate the one you have in sterling if you like it the much.
